Trailblazing Leader, First African-American Elected Official In Westchester Dies A town in Westchester is mourning the loss of Alice Roker, a trailblazing leader and its first African-American elected official who died on Monday, Feb. 10, surrounded by her family. Roker's death was announced on Tuesday, Feb. 11 by Yorktown Supervisor Ed Lachterman, who said she was the first African-American and first woman to serve in elected office in town.  "Her death is a loss for the community she loved and enthusiastically supported," Lachterman said.
