New School District In Area Agrees To Replace Indians Mascot
A Hudson Valley school district will become the latest to retire its “Indians” nickname. The Nyack School Board unanimously voted to drop its nickname during a special meeting on Wednesday, Aug. 12. The decision came weeks after alumni and the community expressed concern regarding the mascot. Ex-Middle School Principal Jamaal Bowman Leads 16-Term Congressional Incumbent Eliot Engel
Former middle school educator Jamaal Bowman is declaring victory over longtime incumbent Congressman Eliot Engel in the 16th District of New York. Engel, a 31-year incumbent in the 16th District, which includes parts of the Bronx and Westchester County, was trailing Bowman by a tally of 61.7 percent versus 34.9 percent, according to the latest numbers released by officials. Audio: Police Release Tape Of Officers Involved In Fatal Westchester Shooting
The New Rochelle police union is standing by the officer who fatally shot an allegedly armed 24-year-old felon over the weekend who was prepared to take a shot at him during a pursuit as an audiotape of the incident was released. Two uniformed police officers from the New Rochelle Police Department stopped a black Dodge sedan shortly before 11 p.m. on Friday, June 5, for a traffic violation near the intersection of Potter Avenue and Pierce Street. ID, Details Released After Man Shot, Killed In Police-Involved Westchester Shooting
The man who was fleeing on foot after a traffic stop in Westchester County who was shot and killed by a police officer after allegedly drawing a gun has been identified. The happened on Friday, June 5 just before 11 p.m. That's when two uniformed New Rochelle police officers conducted the stop of the vehicle, whose driver had committed several vehicle and traffic law violations, said Captain Cosma Costa of the New Rochelle PD.
