A pair of potential new tropical systems with the potential for development are being monitored by forecasters. The first, off the coast of Florida, is far west of Tropical Storm Philippe, which is now near the eastern Caribbean. (See the first image above.) In the aftermath of severe storms that left Hudson Line tracks covered in water and debris, Metro-North officials have announced that a limited bus service will replace suspended trains in the Hudson Valley. Major Storm System Expected To Bring Strong Winds, New Round Of Rain To Region
A significant storm on track for the Northeast is expected to bring potentially damaging gusts and a new round of rainfall in the middle of the workweek. The system will move in from the Midwest on Wednesday, Nov. 30. It's the same storm that could cause a "possible severe weather outbreak in the Southeast, as well as a swath of snow across the Plains and Upper Midwest," according to AccuWeather.com. A storm with periods of rain and gusty winds will also bring spring snowfall and a wintry mix in parts of the Northeast. The system, which has weakened after fueling tornadoes in the Southeast, arrives in this region late Wednesday afternoon, March 23. Tree Falls On Tracks, Suspending Metro-North Service
Winds gusts of up to 50 miles per hour have closed service on the Metro-North Harlem Line after a tree fell on the tracks. According to the MTA, a tree fell onto the train tracks north of the North White Plains station around 11:20 a.m., Monday, Nov. 2, suspending service to the Southeast. Commuters and cars requiring access to those stations are advised to seek alternate transportation, the MTA said. Downed Tree Causes Hourslong Route 22 Closure
This story has been updated. A stretch of Route 22 near the border of Northern Westchester and Putnam was closed for hours due to a downed tree. The closure, reported just before 7 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, was in both directions in the area of Danbury Road (Route 6) in Southeast. The roadway reopened around noontime.
