An inspector with the New York Department of Environmental Conservation located the ad offering a five-and-a-half-foot Asian water monitor lizard for sale in mid-May.  The seller, who initially listed the unusual animal for $1,400, stated he would negotiate down to $1,000, the DEC said.  The investigator reached out to the seller via email, posing as an interested purchaser, and made plans to meet the seller in Sullivan County on Tuesday, May 16.  On that date…

Popular Lake, State Park In Hudson Valley Closed Due To Blue-Green Algae A popular lake and state park in the Hudson Valley is closed due to high levels of blue-green algae. Harriman State Park in Rockland County has closed Lake Welch Beach, the picnic grounds, and the public boat launch until further notice due to the harmful algae bloom, said officials with the state parks department. The algae have affected all of Lake Welch, officials said. "The closures are necessary to protect public health and safety," the department said. Fair officials announced on Wednesday, June 3, they had "made the incredibly emotional and difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Dutchess County Fair," due to concerns for the safety of the many guests.
