Former Fire Chief Of Department In Westchester County Dies At 55
A man who was once the fire chief of a department in Westchester County has died. Brian Payne of Larchmont died on Saturday, Nov. 12 at the age of 55, according to his obituary. Payne, a longtime member of the Larchmont Fire Department from 1989 to 2007, served as Chief from 2001 to 2004, and was also a committed member of the Town of Mamaroneck Fire Department from 2007 until his death, his obituary said. NY Jury Finds Pharmaceutical Company Liable In Opioids Case
Teva Pharmaceuticals, the last remaining defendant in a New York trial against opioid defendants, has been found liable for creating a public nuisance through its manufacture, sale, and distribution of opioids. Closure By Company In Area To Result In 72 Layoffs
Dozens of employees at a Hudson Valley company will be out of a job as the plant plans to move its operations out of state within the next two years. In Putnam County, Carmel-based Silarx Pharmaceuticals, which has been a fixture in the region for more than six years, filed papers with the state with the intention to transfer production to a facility in Indiana. NY, Other States Reach $4.5B Settlement With Purdue Pharma Over Its Role In Opioid Epidemic
New York is joining several other states in winning a multi-billion dollar settlement - one of the largest in the country’s history - with Purdue Pharma for its role in the opioid epidemic that has plagued the US for years. Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced a $4.5 billion settlement with the pharmaceutical company that will put them out of business after falsely marketing its products to get Americans hooked on opioids. Prime Vacant Office Space Soars To 62 Percent In Northern Westchester
According to the latest quarterly report by JLL, the vacancy rate for office space has hit 62 percent in Northern Westchester, more than three times higher than submarkets in southern Westchester, which have a combined vacancy rate of approximately 20 percent. JLL's research from the third quarter of 2017 also founds rents are down in general and that countywide, the vacancy rate is nearing 25 percent -- nearly five percent higher than 2013.
