A New York resident has died days after contracting the state’s first human case of a rare but serious mosquito-borne virus in nearly a decade. The Ulster County resident died from complications stemming from eastern equine encephalitis (EEE), Gov. Kathy Hochul’s office confirmed on Monday, Sept. 23. Debris Removed From Under Bridge In Westchester To Stop Flooding
A build-up of debris underneath a Metro-North bridge in Westchester had to be removed to prevent possible flooding, county officials said. As a result of storms bringing heavy downpours, a build-up of branches and other flotsam began appearing underneath the Metro-North bridge in Bronxville near Parkway Road which soon became noticed by residents. Drunk 17-Year-Old Drives Into Playground During Carnival In Westchester: Police
An unlicensed 17-year-old faces drunk driving charges after crashing a minivan into a playground during a carnival in Westchester, police said. The incident happened on Saturday, July 1 around 11:20 p.m., when officers assigned to the Fireman's Carnival in Mamaroneck at Harbor Island Park saw a minivan recklessly driving in the grassy area next to the event's grounds, according to Village of Mamaroneck Police Lt. Rare Fall Coyote Sightings Reported In Westchester
Although temperatures are dropping, and reported sightings typically tend to take a dip, a pair of sizable coyotes were recently spotted making the rounds in Westchester. Two sightings of coyotes - estimated at approximately 40 pounds each - were reported in New Rochelle in recent days. The first sighting was reported on Thursday, Oct. 24 at approximately 7:15 a.m., the second on Sunday, Oct. 27, both in the Beechmont Woods neighborhood.
