The last day in business for Kumo Sushi & Steakhouse in Stony Brook will be Sunday, Sept. 24. "In light of the recent events, we have made the very difficult decision to permanently close the restaurant," the eatery said in a statement released on Saturday, Sept. 23. Dozens Sickened After Dining At Long Island Restaurant A popular Long Island restaurant has reopened after 28 people received food poisoning after eating alleged bad rice. The incident took place in Stony Brook on Saturday, Sept. 9 at the Kumo Sushi & Steakhouse. The Suffolk County Police Department and 13 local fire departments responded to the restaurant to help the ailing patrons, officials said. At least 28 individuals reported symptoms, and 12 people were treated at Stony Brook University Hospital, the department said. Witnesses reported seeing people vomiting at the restaurant.
