3 Hudson Valley Companies Announce Around 300 Layoffs
Several hundred Hudson Valley workers will lose their jobs as three companies, either close, merge or cutback on production. The companies, all located in Orange County, Frito-Lay and Gen-Pak, both in Middletown, and Amscan in Newburgh, filed WARN Notices with the state that inform them of upcoming layoffs. Frito-Lay said it would lay off 88 workers beginning on Friday, Aug. 30 due to construction projects at the plant. The workers will not be rehired. Frito-Lay Issues Recall For Tostitos Product That May Contain Undeclared Ingredient
A recall has been issued for a Tosititos product that may contain an undeclared ingredient. Frito-Lay today issued the voluntary recall for select 15 oz. Tostitos Avocado Salsa Jar Dips due to the possible presence of an undeclared milk allergen, according to an announcement by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). "Those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products," the announcement said. Frito-Lay is looking to build a 150,000-square-foot fulfillment center in the Hudson Valley, making it one of the largest additions to the area in years. The company has applied to build the expansive project in Dutchess County at the iPark mixed-use area in East Fishkill. A popular brand of Lay’s potato chips is being recalled. Frito-Lay announced this week that it has issued the voluntary recall of Lay’s Barbecue flavored potato chips that may have also been included in variety packs. The recall is due to undeclared milk allergens. The recall covers one-ounce, 1 ½-ounce, 2 ⅝-ounce potato chips, 7 ¾-ounce, 12 ½-ounce, and 15 ½-ounce bags of chips that co old cause a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction to some if they consume the product contained inside the recalled bags. Westchester-Based PepsiCo Cuts Jobs After Flat Sales
Westchester-based PepsiCo reported flat sales in the closing months of 2017 and announced on Tuesday that it will cut jobs while offering bonuses of up to $1,000. The layoffs will affect corporate employees, amounting to less than 1 percent of its more than 110,000 employees, the company said. Bonuses go to those who make PepsiCo's snacks and drinks, and those who deliver them. PepsiCo, whose headquarters is in Purchase, cited a major overhaul of the nation's tax code for the bonuses.
