New York State Department of Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker, the mastermind behind former Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s COVID-19 plan, has resigned from his position. Gov. 19: Those Not Vaccinated 11 Times More Likely To Be Hospitalized, NY DOH Study Says
A newly-released study by the New York State Department of Health found that unvaccinated adults were eight times more likely to be diagnosed with the COVID-19 and 11 times more likely to be hospitalized with the virus than those who are fully vaccinated. The study was published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Wednesday, Aug. 18. It focused on the time period from May 3 through July 25. The first case of the highly contagious COVID-19 Brazilian variant has been confirmed in a New York State resident. The case of the strain, officially known as the P.1 variant, was identified by scientists at Mount Sinai hospital in New York City and verified by the Department of Health's Wadsworth Center Laboratories. 19: State Launches Online Dashboard To Track Cases In Schools
With schools reopening with either hybrid or remote learning plans in place, the state has set up its latest COVID-19 dashboard to help parents and educators monitor the number of cases connected to students and teachers.
