The oldest working farm in a Hudson Valley county, which dates back to the 18th century, will now be permanently protected from development. The Ryder Farm, located in the Putnam County town of Southeast, will be permanently protected from non-farm development by a conservation easement, the Westchester Land Trust announced on Tuesday, Oct. 10. Offensive Images, Words Spray Painted On Public Property In Northern Westchester
Police in Northern Westchester are searching for the person responsible for spray-painting racist graffiti. The graffiti was discovered in Yorktown where the Taconic Parkway passes over the Croton Reservoir northbound on Saturday, May 21. The graffiti, which was signed with the initials JJC, was done in blue spray paint and said "Jackson C. Hates N....S" as well as an anti-semitic statement, said Chief Robert Noble, of the Yorktown Police. Body Found In Northern Westchester Reservoir Apparent Suicide
A body found pulled from a section of the Croton Reservoir in Yorktown on Sunday, Jan. 20 is being handled as an apparent suicide. A rescue crew pulled the body from the waters shortly after it was discovered around 9 a.m. near the intersection of Hunterbrook Road and Baptist Church Road. According to Adam Bosch, a spokesman with the state Department of Environmental Protection, which oversees the watershed area, the death is "being investigated as an apparent suicide," and that no further information would be available, including the person's identity or hometown. Northern Westchester Man Jumps To His Death From Bridge On Taconic Parkway
A Westchester County man who jumped to his death from the AMVETS Memorial Bridge off the Taconic State Parkway has been identified, according to the New York State Police. Xiaohu Liu, 53, of Briarcliff Manor was recovered by the Yorktown Heights Fire Department marine unit around 1 p.m. Sunday from the Croton Reservoir, said Trooper A.J. Hicks, public information officer for Troop K. Although the event remains under investigation, Hicks said Liu’s death is “consistent with suicide.”
