19: School District In Area Goes Remote Until 2021
A school district in the area will be switching over to its distance learning model following a recent spike in COVID-19 cases among students and staff members. Carmel Schools Superintendent Eric Stark announced the shift to remote learning will start on Monday, Dec. 14 for all schools. Carmel Schools Superintendent Resigns
The superintendent at one of the area's largest public school districts is stepping down before the new academic year begins after just five years at the helm of the district. Carmel Schools Superintendent Andy Irvin announced this week that he will be resigning from his position as superintendent after informing the school board of his decision at the end of last week. Update: Man Taken Into Custody After Being Barricaded In Lake Carmel
Update, 10:30 p.m. A man who barricaded himself inside a home in Lake Carmel was taken into custody late Friday night. The incident began Friday afternoon around 3:40 p.m. in the Vernon Drive area when a family member called police reporting the situation. The Putnam Sheriff's Department and Kent Police responded with assistance from Westchester County Police. There had been reports the man had a gun and that a loud bang was heard at one point, but no weapon was immediately recovered.
