MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- December 4 will officially mark the beginning of a new era in Mount Kisco.

Gina Picinich will be sworn in as mayor that day, ending Michael Cindrich's 14-year run. On Tuesday, Picinich running on the 4MK party upset Cindrich 52 percent to 48 percent, 1,320 votes to 1,209 votes. Picinich's running mate, Isi Albanese, was elected to the village board

"I feel really honored and truly blessed that the community has placed their trust in me and Isi," Picinich said. "It's very humbling. I feel so energized and excited."

On Election Day, Picinich said she had no expectations, but felt good from the hundreds of residents they spoke to during the campaign.

"The key for us was listening to the people's concerns," Picinich said. "It was an uphill battle. I wasn't the incumbent and we were only on one party line. My opponent was on five. You needed to search the ballot to find me."

With her swearing in less than a month away, Picinich said she plans to hit the ground running and has already begun working on the transition.

"We want to restore economic vitality to our downtown while making sure taxes stay low," Picinich said. "We want Mount Kisco to continue to stay affordable and find more opportunities for people to be engaged and involved in village government."

Picinich also praised Cindrich for his contributions to Mount Kisco. Aside from his long tenure as mayor, Cindrich was also a trustee and a member of the planning board.

"His contributions cannot go unnoticed," Picinich said. "We appreciate all he's done for the community."
