MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- Gina Picinch and Isi Albanese are looking to give Mount Kisco a rare contested municipal elections.

Picinich and Albanese are collecting signatures to form their own political party, 4MK, with Picinch running for mayor against Michael Cindrich and Albanese running for trustee.

Over the last ten years, Mount Kisco has had two contested trustee races and one write-in campaign for mayor. Cindrich has been mayor since 2003.

"Mount Kisco residents need a choice," Picinich, co-executive director of the Mount Kisco Chamber of Commerce. "We need to offer people an opportunity rather than just one option. A lot of people in this community haven't been engaged. We need to bring them in and getting involved in the process."

Picinich and Albanese need to get 123 signatures by Aug. 22 to appear on the ballot. Picinich said the response has been overwhelming.

"People are seeking us out," Picinich said. "We believe in this community and we believe in this opportunity."

While other communities near Mount Kisco have done a lot to increase opportunities for its local businesses, Mount Kisco has lagged behind, Picinich said.

"This is a wonderful place to raise your family and it's also a great place for businesses," Picinich said. "We need to be focused on touting that."

Albanese, the owner of Exit 4 Food Hall, said he wants to make Mount Kisco a better place to live.

"We... want people that are looking for a great community to live or want to start a business, to choose Mount Kisco as their first choice," Albanese said. "I am getting involved because I care for people, and I care about Mount Kisco and about its future."

Trustees Anthony Markus and Peter Grunthal are running for re-election.
