The man, a New Rochelle resident who police declined to identify, was driving west on Route 35 in a Lincoln Continental car service vehicle around 10:30 p.m., Thursday, July 11, when the vehicle crossed the median and struck a guardrail on the east side of the highway, said Bedford Police Lt. Andrew Bellantone.
The car then careened off the guardrail and hit an eastbound vehicle with two people inside, he said.
Bellantone said investigators are looking into the possibility that the driver suffered a medical issue.
The two people in the other vehicle were not injured.
The man was taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla where he was pronounced dead, Bellantone said.
The crash is under investigation.
