MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- Paul Dennis Dolgert, 74, died surrounded by his family and listening to his favorite jazz and classical music on Jan. 16.

Dolgert was born in Philadelphia on Sept. 7, 1943, to Stanley Dolgert and Marie Dlgert (nee Dasemnek). Dolgert later moved to New York to begin a long career in medical publishing.

He worked at Saunders, Grune & Stratton, and was then the long-time editorial director for Humana Press, in Totowa, N.J., where he developed and edited numerous book series and journals spanning many areas of medical research. Later he returned to his studies, receiving his MBA from New York University, and came to Mount Kisco in 1983 with his wife Elva and youngest son Michael.

Dolgert was described as a loving husband, father, and grandfather, a Renaissance man, and an inveterate joiner. He was also a proud member of the New York Guard and the Veteran Corps of Artillery of the State of New York. He enjoyed foreign culture, traveling, languages, and being outdoors in nature, his family said.

Dolgert is survived by his wife of 40 years, Elva. He is also survived by his sons Stefan (Monique) and Michael (Katie), his grandchildren Beren, Sam, Emily, and Ryan, his brother Ray (Pat), his sister Virginia Selby (Harry), his nephew Andrew, and finally Jeffrey, his cat. His family said they will all miss his humor, his love, and his smile, but his spirit will live on.

A wake will be held at Cassidy-Flynn Funeral Home, 288 E. Main Street, Mount Kisco,  from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday.

The funeral service will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 2 Green Street, Mt. Kisco at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday. All are also welcome to attend the burial, which will be conducted that same day at 1:00 p.m. at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 453 Fairfield Avenue, Hartford.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Paul Dolgert Memorial Fund at the National Kidney Foundation:
