Cindrich gave the update when asked following Monday's board meeting, at which trustees remembered their late colleague.
Griffin, who served as deputy mayor and died of cancer on Christmas Eve, was an elected village trustee. His deputy mayor role was an added one that was given by an appointment from Cindrich.
The state's law governing villages gives the mayor the power to fill a vacant trustee seat, without a vote of the full village board. However, Cindrich said he will consult with the village board to make his appointee is a person everybody believes is appropriate for the position.
The person appointed to the seat would serve until Dec. 7, 2015, according to Cindrich, which is the date for when someone would take office for a new term. The seat, which carries a two-year full term, is scheduled to be up for an election in November.
Cindrich mentioned that he made an appointment before, in 2003, for his old trustee seat, when he became mayor.
