Eight Cats Rescued From Mount Kisco Fire 'All Doing OK'

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- Eight cats who were rescued from a fatal Mount Kisco house fire are "all doing OK," according to Sofia Rocha of the SPCA of Westchester.

The house damaged by a fire in Mount Kisco is located in a wooded area behind a row of commercial buildings along East Main Street.

SPCA staffers went to the house and recovered the cats on Wednesday, Rocha said. The cats are now in custody with the organization, which has a facility in the Briarcliff Manor area.

One kitten was among those saved and is now being fostered, Rocha added.

Rocha also said that traps were set up on the premises after the SPCA received a report of there being more than eight cats; she does not believe that any perished in the fire.

The cats' owner, identified as 86-year-old Chrystine Nicholas, died in connection with the blaze. Nicholas' home is located in a wooded area behind several buildings near the intersection of East Main Street and Boltis Street.

A son of the victim expressed interest in taking in some of the cats, Rocha added. Adoption is another possibility for the cats.
