Westchester Native Denzel Washington Wins Cecil B. DeMille Award

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. -- Mount Vernon native Denzel Washington has snagged the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award.

Mount Vernon native Denzel Washington, an actor who has won numerous awards, has another one to add to his shelf at home: the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille, which he won at Sunday night's Golden Globes.

Washington was given the award at Sunday night’s Golden Globes, which aired live on NBC-TV.

The son of a Pentecostal minister and a beauty shop operator, Washington can now add the DeMille to the numerous awards accumulated in this 40-year acting career, including two Academy Awards: one for his role in the historical drama “Glory,” and the other for his turn as a corrupt cop in “Training Day.”

According to a report in E! Online, he has won a Golden Globe twice before as well as seven Globe nominations.

Washington also has a Tony, a BAFTA, two Emmys, an NAACP award, and a Grammy, according to the E! Online report.

Others who have won the DeMille include, the E! Online story said, include: Jodie Foster, Morgan Freeman, and the late Robin Williams.
