NWH Chief of Emergency Medicine Participates On Prom Panel

YORKTOWN HEIGHTS, N.Y. -- With prom season right around the corner, The Alliance for Safe Kids, the YHS PTSA, and Yorktown High School are presenting “What Every Parent and Senior Should Know About Prom, Parties, and Potential Problems.” this Thursday evening.

Alcohol is the most widely misused substance among America’s youth, and drinking by young people poses enormous health and safety risks. As part of Northern Westchester Hospital's effort to educate students and parents about the dangers of underage drinking, Dr. James Dwyer, Chief of Emergency Medicine, will participate in the evening's prom panel. Dr. Dwyer will discuss the potential health and medical pitfalls of underage drinking and substance use.

Among the topics discussed will be:

Strategies for parents and teens to protect themselves from health problems and legal liability
Check points, regulations, and licensing for limousines, party buses, and cars
Medical, legal, and college responses to non-consensual sexual activity
Incidents your homeowners and automobile insurance may not cover

In addition to Dr. Dwyer, the panel will include Robert Doerr, School Resource Officer, Yorktown Police Department, Salvatore Lagonia, Yorktown Town Justice, Anthony J. Molea, Assistant District Attorney and Chief of the Yorktown Office of the Westchester DA’s Office and Officer Christian Picciano, Westchester County Taxi and Limousine Commission Enforcement Unit.

“What Every Parent and Senior Should Know About Prom, Parties, and Potential Problems,” will be held on Thursday, Feb. 25 at Yorktown High School.
