In an announced on Thursday, Northwell said it had reached the agreement keeping all Northwell hospitals, physicians, laboratories, home health and other providers in the Cigna network.
The agreement will continue without change through 2018 and all Northwell patients who are insured through Cigna will continue to be welcomed and cared for by Northwell providers, the company said.
Late last month, Cigna preemptively notified its members that Northwell was leaving the Cigna hospital network, Northwell officials said.
“Northwell puts its patients first to ensure that all patients receive the medical care they need,” said Howard Gold, executive vice president, and chief managed care officer. “We regret any confusion or inconvenience caused by Cigna’s letter.”
Based in New Hyde Park, Northwell's network handles 40,000 inpatient and outpatient Cigna customers visit per year.
With some 63,500 employees, Northwell is the state's largest private employer. The company operates 23 hospitals, more than 600 outpatient facilities, and has more than 4,000 physicians in New York.
