As part of the “Chop’t Gives” campaign, all Wednesday guests ate free from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a $2 donation to County Harvest, an all-volunteer organization that rescues good excess from businesses and delivers it to more than 16 agencies in Westchester. Chop’t Gives aim’s to donate $100,000 per year to several organizations.
With the amount of customers ready to order custom salads before the doors even opened, Vice President Mike LaPlaca said it was a great way for his staff to get into a good rhythm before its Grand Opening, which begins on Thursday, Oct. 3.
“Today is all about our staff getting to practice on live customers and letting those customers try our product,” he said.
Chop’t, located at 53 S Moger Ave, creates salads by combining artisanal ingredients, seasonal produce, and homemade, small-batch dressings that are chopped-to-order. The company strives to push the boundaries of what a salad can be with a core menu of 12 classic salads, three rotating seasonal special salads, 25 homemade, small-batch dressings, and limited-time-only “Super Seasonals” that feature local produce only at its peak. Founded in 2001 by college friends Tony Shure and Colin McCabe, Chop’t has more than 20 locations in the New York and Washington D.C.
However, its only Westchester restaurant before Mount Kisco was Rye Brook.
“We listen to our customers in Rye Brook, who are always telling us other places in Westchester they would love see Chop’t in,” LaPlaca said. “Mount Kisco was one of the locations we have consistently heard. We’re familiar with the community and love this space.”
Local residents waiting in line were excited for their creative salad experiences.
“I use to live in Manhattan and loved going to the one there,” Katonah resident Ashley Green said. “It’s nice to have something here in Mount Kisco other than the burger place.”
John Kambaneli, who works in Armonk, said Chop’t was a great lunch option for the work day.
“I’m familiar with the one in Rye, which is great,” he said. “It’s a good healthy choice for your lunch break. I’m glad to have one close to my office now.”
