Mount Vernon Police Commissioner 'Released' Suddenly, Mayor Announces There is more upheaval in Mount Vernon City Hall, as Police Commissioner Shawn Harris has been suddenly ousted from his position at the helm of the department. Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas announced at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Friday, March 15 that Harris has been “released” as of March 13. Replacing him will be Mount Vernon Lt. Robert Scott, who will take over as commissioner effective immediately. Harris took over as commissioner in January last year. No other details were released. This is a developing story.
