Hudson Valley County Files 2 Lawsuits To Stop NYC From Sending More Asylum Seekers
A Hudson Valley county has filed two lawsuits to stop New York City from sending its homeless migrants and asylum seekers to the county. The lawsuits, asking for restraining orders, were filed on Friday, May 12, in Orange County on behalf of the county, said Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus. The first lawsuit is against both the Crossroads Hotel and Ramada by Wyndham, both located in the town of Newburgh, Neuhaus said. Westchester County Homeless Shelter To Be Run By New Operator, Officials Report
Officials shared plans to change the operator of a Northern Westchester homeless shelter. According to a WARN Notice posted on Wednesday, Nov. 23, the Westchester County Department of Social Services has not renewed its contract with Volunteers of America-Greater New York to operate the Grasslands Homeless Shelter in Valhalla. Although a federal judge in Florida voided a nationwide mask mandate for all public transportation hubs, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that in the "short term,” facial coverings will still be required in certain settings in New York. Man Wanted For Rape Of 4-Year-Old Twins Nabbed In Westchester
A man accused of raping a pair of 4-year-old twins and attacking two NYPD officers attempting to arrest him in a homeless shelter was tracked down and arrested in Westchester, authorities announced. US Marshals were able to track down 22-year-old Isaiah Metz in Yonkers at approximately 4:15 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19 inside a different shelter on West 30th Street, where he was arrested on dozens of charges. A mother in Westchester has been sentenced after admitting to the attempted murder of a child when she attempted to drown her infant son at a homeless shelter, the District Attorney’s Office announced. White Plains resident La’Quanaya Ward, age 30, pleaded guilty in October 2021 to second-degree attempted murder after admitting to attempting to drown her 2-year-old son at the Coachman Family Center in White Plains.
