Grimes, of NY Finest Speakers, will speak at 5 p.m. at the Benjamin Turner Middle School at 624 South Third Ave.
The presentation is geared toward the parents and guardians of young people who utilize social networking sites or apps such as Instagram, Snapchat, Vine, Twitter, Facebook, etc.
Grimes, who appears on the "Today," show, as well as at numerous schools and institutions, will cover topics including online predators, identity theft and cyber bullying. His presentation will provide an explicit understanding of what children and teens are doing everyday online and how innocent behaviors like “status updates” or “tagging pictures” can have a long term impact.
Parents will learn how to do the following:
- Find their child online.
- Find their child’s friends on sites and apps.
- Navigate social media.
- Understand potential life threatening scenarios.
- Understand social networking.
- Talk (and listen) to their child about the internet and the dangers associated.
- Offer alternatives to blocking social networking sites.
Admission is free and open to all. The presentation is hosted by Mount Vernon Youth Bureau's CAPP Program and the Mount Vernon City School District.
