Dobson described himself as a quiet, shy kid when he originally joined Boys and Girls Club. He joined the club to make new friends and to stay out of trouble. He also attributes many life lessons and experiences to the club.
"The most important lessons I learned were respect for myself and others, self-control and a sense of being comfortable in my own skin," Dobson said. "The club let me be myself and find my own way. What seemed like a lot of new unfamiliar faces quickly become friends and part of my support group. The club made me smile, which is something I did not do a lot of before I came to the club."
