New York State Sen. Alessandra Biaggi announced her run for Congress as the lawmaker joins a crowded field looking to take over for gubernatorial hopeful Tom Suozzi. Biaggi, age 35, of Pelham, announced her candidacy on Monday, Feb. 7 in the newly drawn Third Congressional District, which now includes parts of Suffolk, Nassau, Queens, Bronx, and Westchester counties. Westchester Congressman Arrested During Voting Rights Protest At US Capitol
A New York congressman was among more than two dozen people arrested during a voting rights protest at the US Capitol, authorities announced. Congressman Jamaal Bowman, who represents the southern half of Westchester County and parts of the north Bronx, was arrested for demonstrating outside the Capitol after the group protesting was warned multiple time, police said. New National Poll Shows Areas Where Americans Are United, Divided
A large national study has tackled questions about what issues divide Americans and what values they share. The study, conducted by the Siena College Research Institute, surveyed 6,077 Americans about issues including whether they believe much of the mainstream media is fake, vote choice and more. Researchers found that Americans are divided on a number of issues, including voting rights, a path to citizenship, assault weapons and abortion. New York Attorney General is going after a pair of conspiracy theorists who allegedly orchestrated a large-scale robocall campaign to intimidate Black communities during the 2020 election. Sex Offenders Allowed To Vote In Upcoming Primary, But 'Only After 7 p.m.'
This story has been updated. New Yorkers who plan to vote in next week’s primary elections should be forewarned. For the first time, thousands of registered sex offenders and paroled pedophiles are now allowed to vote at school polling places— but only after 7 p.m., according to state officials. 35K Felons On Parole Now Can Vote Under Cuomo Executive Order
Thousands of parolees now have the right to vote following an executive order signed into law by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Cuomo signed on Wednesday the executive order, which restores voting rights to an estimated 35,000 men and women on parole in the state.
