Man Charged In Hit-Run Crash That Killed Lifelong Westchester Resident, Police Say
A 27-year-old man has been arrested for a hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a 91-year-old man in Westchester.
Johnny David Machado, of Hastings-on-Hudson, was arrested Tuesday, Oct. 1, in connection with the incident that took place around 9:25 p.m., Friday, Sept. 20, in a crosswalk in Dobbs Ferry, said the Dobbs Ferry Police Department.
According to the police, Rocco DePaolo, a Dobbs Ferry resident, was struck while crossing Route 9 at the intersection with Maple Street by Machado, who was driving a dark-colored vehicle and then fled the scene, police said.

A 91-year-old man who lived his entire life on the same block in Westchester was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver while crossing a roadway at night.
Rocco DePaolo was killed in Dobbs Ferry around 9:25 p.m., Friday, Sept. 20, while crossing the intersection of Broadway (Route 9) and Maple Street, said the Village of Dobbs Ferry Police.
DePaolo, who graduated from Dobbs Ferry High School in 1945, was inside a crosswalk when the dark-colored vehicle hit him, police said.
The vehicle, which was later found, fled in a southerly direction, police said.

The person killed during a crash with a tractor-trailer on Route 9 has been identified by police as a well-known area farmer and book dealer from Garrison.
Joseph Mercurio, 72, was killed around 10:45 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 18, after the vehicle he was driving crashed with a tractor-trailer on Route 9, talking down multiple power lines and closing the roadway for hours, said the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

Five Charged With DWI During Westchester Sobriety Checkpoint
Five people are facing driving while intoxicated charges following a fixed sobriety checkpoint in Northern Westchester.
The detail, on Route 9 in the town of Cortlandt, was conducted on Saturday, Aug. 31 by state police troopers from the Somers, Cortlandt and Hawthorne barracks.
Those facing charges are:
