NY Clears Way For Movie Theaters To Sell Beer, Wine
Wine and beer options are coming soon to a movie theater new you. The New York State Liquor Authority (SLA) unanimously approved a measure to allow cinemas to serve beer and wine at their concession stands. Previously, unlike concerts, plays, and other live entertainment, movie theaters were only permitted to sell alcohol for consumption before their film. New York is lifting some of its COVID-19 restrictions and curfews as the state continues its recovery from the winter surge of the virus. Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced on Wednesday, March 17 that the state was lifting restrictions on its five remaining “yellow zone” COVID-19 clusters, while allowing businesses to reopen more widely. 19: Movie Theaters Cleared To Open Statewide, Except In NYC, Cluster Areas
Movie theaters outside of New York City can reopen statewide next week, except COVID-19 cluster zones. Those theaters were cleared on Saturday, Oct. 17 to operate at 25 percent capacity under state guidance starting Friday, Oct. 23. No more than 50 people will be allowed in front of each screen in each movie theater at once. Mamaroneck Playhouse Will Reopen With Six Movie Screens
The Sound Shore's historic movie theaters are being saved one-by-one. The Mamaroneck Playhouse at 238 Mamaroneck Ave., which has been closed since 2015, is expected to reopen later this year.
