Authorities have released the identities of both the pilot who survived and the passenger who died in a small plane crash that shut down Interstate 684 at the border of Fairfield, CT and Westchester, CT counties for hours.
Kalmen Goldberger, 26, of Linden, NJ, had reported engine trouble before the single-engine Tecnam P-2008 went down in the center median of I-684 near Exit 2 in Harrison Thursday, Dec. 12 around 7:15 p.m., officials said.

Fatal Fire: 2 Escape Jail After Blaze Claiming Lives Of Hudson Valley Firefighter, Other Man
Two rabbis who pleaded guilty to a fatal fire at an adult home in the Hudson Valley have escaped jail time through a plea deal.
Rockland County residents Nathaniel Sommer, age 72, of Monsey, pleaded guilty on Tuesday, June 20 to two counts of second-degree manslaughter and is expected to be sentenced to five years probation, said Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh.
His son, Aaron Sommer, age 29, also of Monsey, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree reckless endangerment, which carries a sentence of three years probation, Walsh added.

Fatal Hit-Run Crash: 18-Year-Old Charged For Incident Involving Hudson Valley Woman, Age 52
An 18-year-old Hudson Valley resident has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash last year that left another woman dead.
The Rockland County teen, from Monsey, was charged on Monday, April 3, said Lt. Michael Gannon, with the Ramapo Police.
Her name was not released due to her age at the time of the incident, making her eligible for youthful offender status, Gannon said.
The crash took place in Rockland County around 12:45 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 28, on West Carlton Road in Ramapo, Gannon said.

Duo Charged With Kidnapping, Robbery In Incident At Hudson Valley Motel
Two Hudson Valley men were indicted on charges stemming from a kidnapping and robbery at a motel in the region.
Rockland County residents Jonathan Abikzer, age 30, of Monsey, and Michael Galkovich, age 46, of New City, were charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree kidnapping in the incident that happened in Garnerville earlier this month, Rockland County District Attorney Thomas Walsh announced on Tuesday, Aug. 30.
They were also charged with two counts of second-degree robbery, Walsh said.

Head-On Crash Kills Hudson Valley Man
A man was killed in a two-vehicle head-on collision on a busy Hudson Valley roadway.
The crash, which took place in Orange County on Route 17 in the town of Tuxedo, happened around 4 a.m., Wednesday, July 28, between a 2017 International box truck and a 2015 Nissan Sentra, said Trooper Steven Nevel.
According to a preliminary investigation, the box truck, driven by Rockland County resident Eluzer Silber, age 31, of Monsey, was traveling north on Route 17 in the town of Tuxedo, when it collided head-on with the Sentra driven by Michael Wyka, age 63, from the town of Monroe.

Rockland County resident Baruch Ungar, age 26, of Monsey, was arrested around 11:50 p.m., Sunday, March 14 in Clarkstown, following a pursuit on Palisades Parkway, said Trooper Steven Nevel.

Covid-19: Hudson Valley Hits 2 Percent Infection Rate Mark As Cases In Clusters Spike
Spikes in positive COVID-19 cases in Rockland and Orange County have pushed the Hudson Valley’s infection rate to the highest in New York.
On Monday, Sept. 28, there were 9,948 people tested in the Hudson Valley, with 202 returning positive, bringing the infection rate to 2 percent, ahead of Western New York (1.3 percent), New York City (1.3 percent), and Long Island (1.2 percent).
No other region was above 1 percent as the statewide infection rate rose to 1.3 percent.

The two men killed in a fiery, fatal crash overnight on the New York Thruway are being remembered as two popular volunteer paramedics who operated in the Hudson Valley.
New York State Police troopers responded to a stretch of I-87 in Suffern at approximately 1:45 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 21, when a truck collided with a tractor-trailer, sending both off the roadway.
The truck became fully engulfed in flames, killing its driver, Spring Valley resident Moshe Herzog, 18, and his passenger, David Schneebalg, 26, of Monsey.
