Orange County resident Jack Braun of Slate Hill, a hamlet of Wawayanda, died in Sullivan County around 1:30 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 22, on Route 17 West in Mamakating in a single-vehicle crash.
According to his obituary, Braun, a student at Minisink Valley High School, was born an ‘old soul' and was passionate about history, film, and music.

A Northern Westchester community is rallying around a local family whose son was stabbed trying to protect his friend who was killed during the attack.
Alex Leon, 18, of Peekskill, was severely injured on Saturday, Nov. 28, attempting to defend and protect his friend Joaquin Salazar who died from his injuries.
Leon, who is the son of Franki Leon, the owner of Franki's Grill in Croton on Hudson, was also stabbed. He underwent four hours of surgery and is currently slowly recovering at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, according to a GoFundMe page.

Riding her bike to school one day, Jordan Duffy experienced an accident that would change her life forever. Not wearing a helmet, she and a friend pulled out of her family's driveway and began to pedal away. Suddenly, an approaching car veered towards the teens, causing her to collide head-on, flip head over heels and land on her head.

A Hudson Valley girl whose battle with an extremely rare disease of the nervous system prompted an outpouring of support and attention from news outlets and social media has died.
Brianna Christine Skriver of Newburgh succumbed to Batten disease on Friday, Jan. 12 at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital. She was 15.
Brianna loved dancing, playing soccer, and loved her Disney Princesses.
