Father and son rabbis pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from a fire that killed an area firefighter and another person. The two men, Rabbi Aaron Sommer and Rabbi Nathaniel Sommer, both of Rockland County, were arraigned on multiple charges that included manslaughter and negligent homicide on Thursday, Oct. 28. A teen has pleaded guilty to the shooting death of a man visiting the Hudson Valley. Rockland County District Attorney Tom Walsh announced the guilty plea of Collyer Goodman, of Valley Cottage, on Monday, Oct. 18, for the shooting death of a Chicago man visiting Nyack last August. A 39-year-old man will spend time behind bars after being found guilty of the fatal stabbing of another man in a parked car following a three-week trial in Westchester. Byron Stinson, of Yonkers, was found guilty in Westchester of second-degree manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon, both felonies, for his role in the 2019 stabbing death of another man while the two were doing drugs. A Northern Westchester man admitted to stabbing two teenagers, one of whom died during a fight that started on social media, the District Attorney’s Office announced. Peekskill resident Matthew Torres, age 18, was indicted in January for manslaughter and assault for his role in the violent stabbing of two 18-year-old teens during a fight late last year. Support is pouring in from the community for the family of a 16-year-old teen who was stabbed to death following a high school football game in the area. Quraan Smith, a junior at Arlington High School, died around 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17 immediately after the game in Dutchess County between Scarsdale High School and host Arlington High School in LaGrange. A 22-year-old man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the shooting death of a Westchester County man. Johnathan Jeanty, of Mount Vernon, pleaded guilty to the first-degree felony charge on Wednesday, Sept. 15, according to Westchester County District Attorney Miriam Rocah. A man will spend decades in prison after fatally stabbing a teenager in Northern Westchester and proceeding to attack a fellow detainee while in jail. Jahliv Niles, age 20, of Peekskill, has been sentenced to 20 years in prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision for the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Omarion McKenzie.
