Bags No Longer Fly Free: Southwest Scraps Most Famous Perk, Adds New Fees Southwest Airlines is grounding one of its most famous perks, marking a major shift in its identity after more than five decades. Southwest will no longer offer free checked bags for all passengers, the company said in a news release on Tuesday, Mar. 11.
