Cattaraugus County resident Zach Golley, 24, was gravely injured when his truck was struck by a train in the village of Ellicottville on Thursday, Feb. 27, according to fire officials. Golley, a dedicated assistant fire chief for the Ellicottville Volunteer Fire Department, was found trapped inside his vehicle when his own fire crew arrived on scene, the agency said. US Presidential Scholar: HS Senior From Northern Westchester Gets Top Honor A high school senior from Northern Westchester has received one of the nation's highest honors for students.  Byram Hills High School senior Samantha Milewicz of Armonk is one of only 161 students nationwide to be selected as a US Presidential Scholar, school district officials announced on Friday, May 12.  The US Presidential Scholars Program was created in 1964 and recognizes a few of the country's most distinguished graduating seniors. HS Student Wins $20K In Northern Westchester: 'Will Change World One Day' A high school student from Northern Westchester has received a $20,000 scholarship after being named a 2023 Coca-Cola Scholar.  Matthew Krasnow, a student at Fox Lane High School in Bedford, is one of only 150 students across the entire country to receive the scholarship and was picked out of more than 91,000 applicants, according to the Bedford Central School District.  Krasnow was picked based on criteria such as academic excellence, leadership skills, and services in both school and community activities, school officials said.
