Kensico to play for the District 20 softball title

VALHALLA, NY -- Kensico will be striving for its fourth consecutive District 20 title Thursday when it plays Eastchester in the Majors’ softball championship, 5:45 p.m. at Pat Henry Field in Valhalla. Kensico emerged from the losers’ bracket with a 16-1 win over White Plains, Wednesday.

White Plains had beaten Kensico, 4-3, earlier in the tournament. In order for Kensico to continue, it will have to beat Eastchester, forcing a deciding game at a site, time and date to be determined.

Jenna Saldi led Kensico’s offense for the second consecutive game. She went 4 for 4, including two doubles, and drove in six runs. In her last two games, Saldi is 7 for 8. Kaylie Dymek had four hits and scored four runs and Alyssa Giordano went 3 for 4. Bella Riguzzi reached base all five times and had four runs scored.

Kensico manager Tony Rizzuto credited catcher Emily Bisesto with playing a strong game defensively and handling winning pitcher Alyssa Dolan, who struck out seven. The 9-10-year-old softball division will hold its winners’ bracket final with Sherman Park playing Eastchester, 5:45 p.m. at Eastchester’s O’Rourke Field. In a losers’ bracket semifinals, Harrison and Ardsley meet, 7 p.m., at Volunteer Field in Hawthorne.
