Duane Throws Three-Hitter in Sherman Park Win

SILVER LAKE, N.Y. -- Sherman Park provided starter Brendan Duane with a sizeable lead in the first inning and the left-hander took over from there. Duane tossed a three-hitter and struck out four as Sherman Park opened with a 12-1 win over Kensico in a District 20 Little League Baseball Junior’s game at Silver Lake Park, Thursday.

The game was stopped after six innings because of the 10-run rule. Sherman Park lost its next game, 9-7, to Elmsford, so it will play Kensico once again. The teams meet in the losers’ bracket game, Friday, 7:45 p.m. The winner advances to the final, against Elmsford, Saturday, 9 a.m. Along with his three-hitter, Duane also walked four times and scored three runs. Jake Albi and Kenny Knapp also scored two runs apiece. Knapp and John Michael Picciano had consecutive two-run singles in the sixth inning. Sherman Park scored five runs in the first inning. Albi was safe on an error to lead off the game and Jeremy Joseph, Paul Cohen and Duane all drew walks. All four players would score.

Steven Kopicki had two hits for Kenisco and Charles Lippolis singled in Ray Hidalgo in the first inning. Sherman Park third baseman Peter McBride turned in two outstanding plays to close out the game. First, McBride snared a line drive to his right, then fielded a ball in the hole and threw out the runner at first.
