VALHALLA, N.Y. For the second year in a row, the Dreyfus Corporation will be the title sponsor of the annual golf and tennis classic benefiting Blythedale Childrens Hospital in Valhalla. The Dreyfus Golf & Tennis Classic, with former Rangers goalie Mike Richter as honorary chair, also for the second year, will be held Sept. 10 at the Sunningdale Country Club in Scarsdale.
Last year's event at Sunningdale raised more than $200,000 for the hospital.
Dreyfus has been wonderfully supportive of our Annual Golf & Tennis Classic for years, and we deeply appreciate their ongoing commitment to Blythedale, said Hospital President and CEO Larry Levine. We are thrilled that Dreyfus has once again chosen to partner with us in this major role at the event.
The Dreyfus Golf & Tennis Classic tees off at 10:30 a.m. and will feature a full day of golf or afternoon tennis, a putting contest, raffle, auction and dinner after play. Richter, who was a hit as last years auction host, will attend. He was a member of the Rangers team that won the 1994 Stanley Cup.
Proceeds from the event will support Blythedales Parent Transportation Program, which helps families with limited resources access transportation to the hospital for medical-care meetings and training related to their childs care.
The Parent Transportation Program allows Blythedale to minimize the stress caused by having a child in the hospital, said Susan Murray, LCSW, Blythedales director of social work. With the rising price of gas and the overall cost of public transportation, we feel strongly that it is important for us to do all we can to help our families get to the hospital to learn about their childs medical condition and needs, and provide emotional support throughout their stay.
