Geelan, who is superintendent at a district in Western New York, replaces Dr. Brenda Myers, who is retiring in the fall.

“This will be a new challenge and a new frontier,” Geelan, who was appointed at Tuesday's Board of Education meeting, said. “Valhalla is a really good fit. I saw people who are focused on the right things. This will be a very exciting change. When I visited Valhalla, I got the sense that this was a comfortable place I could call home.”

Geelan was appointed as Acting Superintendent of Schools from Nov. 1 to Dec. 31,; and Superintendent of Schools from Jan. 1 to June 30, 2021, with an annual compensation of $260,000 through June 30, 2018.

The Valhalla Board of Education began its search for a new superintendent in March, following Myers' decision to retire.

Geelan was chosen as Valhalla’s next superintendent due to her extensive experience as a district leader, including strong knowledge regarding budget constraints, legal concerns, union issues and capital improvements.

“The board is very excited to welcome Dr. Geelan to the Valhalla community,” said school board President Bob Ierace. “The breadth and depth of her educational leadership experience makes her a great choice to continue the growth of the district’s successful programs, as well as to create, uncover and implement new and exciting opportunities for our students. Dr. Geelan is the leader who is ready to meet the district’s current and future needs.”
