Yorktown Police say they responded to a report of an altercation at Jefferson Valley Mall on Sunday, March 31 around 3 p.m.
Further investigation revealed that the 17-year-old suspect, whose name will not be revealed due to the possibility of youthful offender status, punched the victim in the neck, causing him to fall to the ground, according to police.
The teen then fled the scene, police say.
Following the investigation, the teen surrendered herself at Yorktown Police Headquarters on Tuesday, April 9 and was placed under arrest, according to police.
The suspect was processed and charged with third-degree attempted assault, a Class B misdemeanor. She was arraigned in the Yorktown Justice Court by Judge Lagonia, who also issued a Temporary Order of Protection on the victim’s behalf.
The teen was released on her own recognizance. She is scheduled to appear in the Yorktown Justice Court on Thursday, April 25.
