"At least a dozen" thefts from unlocked cars have occurred over the last few weeks, with about four or five happening Monday night, Police Chief Louis Alagno said Tuesday.

"We've had so many recently," he said. "I think people think, 'I'm home, nothing's going to happen here.'"

Expensive items, such as laptops and purses, have been taken, Alagno said. He cautions residents to lock their cars at all times, even in their driveways.
