Hours after a statewide alert was issued Tuesday for a 17-year-old Verplanck runaway who was believed to have been seen in a BMW, the teen turned herself into police, state police said Wednesday morning.
Samantha Lucero, who was first reported missing in June 2016, and again in January, called the Ossining police dispatch around 6:45 p.m.Tuesday and provided her location, according to Trooper Melissa McMorris, spokeswoman for the New York State Police.
Police, who picked up Lucero and returned the teen to her parents, said she was in good health, she added.
The alert was issued after a family member reported they had seen the girl on Tuesday getting into a gray BMW in the Cortlandt area driven by a Hispanic man, state police said.
