Westcheester County police said that Robert Norville was standing at the bus stop when he fell backward into a drainage ditch.
Norville resided in a homeless shelter operated by Volunteers of America.
Police said they are awaiting toxicology results to determine Norville's exact cause of death. They ruled out foul play, saying Norville likely suffered from a medical condition.
