Early on Monday, Feb. 27, crews from the Valhalla Fire Department and Mount Pleasant Police Department were dispatched to a scary scene on Route 9A near Saw Mill River Road, where a driver totaled his car after losing control and striking a telephone pole before coming to a stop against a stone wall.
According to first responders, upon arrival, crews found that both the driver and passenger were out of the vehicle and alert. Con Edison was notified and dispatched to the scene for the snapped telephone pole and broken street light.
Fire crews stayed on scene during the cleanup, until the vehicle was removed by a tow truck. The driver was subsequently arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license and possession of cocaine, according to the Mount Pleasant Police Department. The driver’s name was not immediately available.
