PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. Patricia Dwyer, Village Administrator of Pleasantville, said it can only get better from here for the village as they begin repairs and clean-up work following the storms that passed through Westchester County this weekend.
"It wasn't as bad because it ended sooner than we thought, but it is certainly not something that we would consider an easy storm by any means," Dwyer said about Hurricane Irene, which was downgraded to a tropical storm by the time it passed through Westchester.
Dwyer ensured that Pleasantville is passable and had full circulation throughout the village on Monday afternoon. However, she said there were a handful of areas in Pleasantville that needed to be cleared due to a downed tree or power line.
The Pleasantville Police Department said as of late Monday morning, roads such as Washington Avenue, Great Oak Lane and Grandview Avenue were closed or partially closed.
Part of the difficulty with clearing these roads was making sure that all live power lines were shut off and cleared from the road before removing trees and branches. Dwyer said Con Edison has been working to clear these lines hopefully by the end of the week.
"The downed wires are still energized so we're trying to tell people to not touch the trees and to keep a distance," Dwyer said.
Certain county highways have begun to reopen following the storms such as the Hutchinson River Parkway and parts of the Saw Mill River Parkway.
Dwyer said that despite the floodings and downed trees that she was glad there weren't any major reported damages.
"We had no significant incidents reported about property damage or public injury so that's great," Dwyer said,
