PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. The social network monster Facebook recently unveiled a revamped profile feature called the Timeline that it hopes will enhance users experience on the website. However, some local people are not so thrilled about the change.
I saw it already and I dont want to change, said Shilpa Judhav, a resident of New York City and a business owner in Pleasantville. Im basically going to wait until the last moment when they force me to change.
The Timeline, introduced by Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg in September, allows users to share photos, statuses, personal information and lifetime events in a more time oriented format on their profile. Timeline also looks very different from the traditional Facebook profile with the addition of a large cover photo. The feature is currently optional to users, however once the change to the Timeline is made, a switch back to the old profile cannot be made. Facebook has not yet announced when it will make the switch mandatory for all users.
Some Facebook users, such as White Plains resident Mike Demuth, are fed up with Facebook and the frequent changes.
Im so sick of Facebook, its always something new and people are obsessed with it and the changes, Demuth said, who works in Pleasantville. I have a life and other things to be concerned about than what Facebook is doing.
Mount Pleasant resident JoAnn Brereton, who made the switch to Timeline, was not pleased with the change. When asked through The Daily Mount Pleasant's Facebook page what she thought of the new feature, Brereton simply responded, "Yuck".
Judhav said that, although she enjoys the look of the Timeline feature, she has some privacy concerns with it.
I just think its a little much, all your business is out there all at once, Judhav said. Its weird that I first got Facebook around three or four years ago and with this new feature people can just go back to that point so easily and see what was on my wall then.
The new Timeline feature allows visitors or friends to track back to any point of a users activity on Facebook with relative ease, a difficult task to perform on the traditional profile.
Although both Judhav and Demuth are not fans of the new Timeline, neither would say they will leave Facebook all together as a result.
