PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. Author and historian Kevin Woyce came to the Mount Pleasant Library in Pleasantville Tuesday evening to give a lecture to local residents on the history of one of America's oldest women, the Statue of Liberty.
In his lecture, Woyce explained many different aspects of the statue, such as how it was constructed, what it symbolizes and also many people that were involved in its creation.
"The Statue of Liberty was always a piece of history that really interested me, I especially found it amazing that this October will be its 125th anniversary," Woyce said.
Woyce, who resides in New Jersey, is familiar with the lower Hudson Valley area and specifically the river towns in Westchester County. He is the author of Hudson River Lighthouses & History, which highlights many lighthouses in the Westchester area and their histories dating back to the Revolutionary War.
"I felt as if there's so much history with the lighthouses along the Hudson and a lot of people didn't really realize it or realize that they are still there," Woyce said.
Currently, Woyce is in the process of writing a book about the Statue of Liberty and its history and hopes to have it complete by October of this fall. He is also the author of "History of the Jersey Shore", which highlights the many beaches of his home state.
