“We are very excited about this new and unique partnership with Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center,” Michael Israel, Westchester Medical Center president and chief executive officer, said in a statement. "We have made an important investment in opening a state-of-the-art facility for the benefit of our oncology patients."
The outpatient facility will be at 19 Bradhurst Ave. in Hawthorne, about a half-mile away from the medical center's Valhalla location. The 5,300 square-foot facility will be able to treat up to 12 adult patients at a time for various forms of cancer and will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Patients at the outpatient facility will remain patients of the Westchester Medical Center and its oncology program.
Services that will be available at the outpatient facility include chemotherapy, biotherapy, infusion therapies along with other services and evaluations.
The infusion center is not only a new facility for Westchseter Medical Center, but also the first partnership of its kind for Memorial Sloan-Kettering with an outside hospital.
“This is a new approach for Memorial Sloan-Kettering,” Craig Thompson, president of Memorial Sloan-Kettering, said in a statement. "Westchester Medical Center’s vision and distinguished history in the region make it an excellent partner as we work together to meet the outpatient cancer care needs of this community.”
The new infusion center will feature nine staff members on duty at a time, which will includes a nurse manager, three oncology nurses and three pharmicists.
According to Westchester Medical Center, oncologist Dr. Michael Fanucchi will be the center's medical director.
