The MTA is charging ahead in its commitment to sustainability with the purchase of 265 zero-emission buses set to operate on routes across New York City, officials announced. High Levels Of Air Pollution Found Near Interstates In Yonkers, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle
The first results of a multi-year study have found a concerning level of air pollution along busy interstate highways and manufacturing businesses in parts of Westchester, affecting nearby schools and childcare facilities. New York State is suing the world’s largest beef producer, claiming it lied about its environmental impacts in order to boost sales. New Move To Ban Single-Use Plastic Bags Underway In New York
In an effort to “combat litter, help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect the environment for future generations,” New York is banning single-use plastic bags and is expanding the bottle bill to include most non-alcoholic containers. Westchester Adds 78 Diesel-Electric Buses
With clean air, safety and performance at the forefront – County Executive George Latimer announced on Tuesday, Sept. 25 that the County’s Bee-Line Bus fleet adding with 78 diesel-electric buses next year. The 60-foot transit buses with multiple security cameras are provided by New Flyer of America, Inc., with a battery electric component supplied by BAE Systems’ Power & Propulsion Division.
