MAMARONECK, N.Y. – The Mamaroneck High School boys’ basketball team will face a tough challenge when it hosts Scarsdale on Friday at 6 p.m.

The Tigers hosted the Sound Shore Classic last weekend but came up short in the first round to cross-town rival Rye Neck. Mamaroneck recovered to knock off Harrison, 50-38, in the consolation game.

Senior Ryan Orgielewicz continued his strong play for the Tigers last weekend. He poured in 13 points against Rye Neck in the first round and then posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds against Harrison.

Mamaroneck is at its most dangerous when the senior trio of Orgielewicz, Alex Lanni and Scott Greenberg are firing on all cylinders. And the three will need to do precisely that against Scarsdale.

The Raiders are 10-2 this season and have turned things around after a 6-12 record last year. Senior forward Jack Hewitt has been a monster for Scarsdale all season. The 6-foot, 7-inch center is a force on the glass, but he can also put up a ton of points when necessary.

Moreover, Scarsdale has shown it can play with the best teams in its class as it knocked off New Rochelle, 57-55, to earn its first win against the Huguenots since 2009. Hewitt had 23 points in that game.

The Tigers must slow down Hewitt to pull out the win on Friday. Lanni is a few inches shorter than the Raiders’ big man, but he will have to use his size and experience to try and draw Hewitt into early foul trouble.

If Hewitt and the Raiders get on an early roll, they could be too difficult to stop.
