New Canaan Police responded to the 700 block of Oenoke Ridge Road Monday, Feb. 25 around 8:45 a.m. on the report of a suspicious vehicle stopped on the side of the road. The operator, later identified as 30-year-old Dylan Declercq of Pound Ridge, New York, was allegedly slumped over and appeared to be sleeping or in need of medical attention.

Officers arrived on scene and observed that the car was still in drive, and the engine was running. Police also say that the car’s front right tire was flat and that the rim appeared to have damages from driving on the flat for an extended period of time.

Upon speaking with Declercq, officers noticed that he was slurring his speech and falling asleep during questioning.

Officers determined after conducting a series of field sobriety tests that Declercq had been operating the vehicle under the influence of drugs or narcotics.

Declercq was taken into custody and allegedly found to be in possession of cocaine and a straw. He was transported, processed and charged with the following:

  • Operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs
  • Possession of a controlled substance
  • Use and possession of drug paraphernalia

Police say Declercq refused a BAC test. He was released after posting $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, March 7.
