12 Arrested After Police Seize Illegal ATVs, Bikes In Springfield

Police in Western Massachusetts seized 14 off-highway vehicles and arrested 12 people during a special detail to remove illegal vehicles from the roadways.

During the multi-day detail in Springfield, officers seized the vehicles which included nine dirt bikes, two unregistered motorcycles, and three ATVs, said Ryan Walsh, spokesman for the Springfield Police.

In addition to the above, one motorized bike was also seized, he said.

Springfield Police Superintendent Cheryl Clapprood stated, “Illegal dirt bikes have continued to be a nuisance which not only affects our resident's quality of life, but in far too many situations the riders brazen behaviors have led to serious injuries and damage to motor vehicles."

Those arrested included:

  • Nygel Palmer, age 20, of Springfield
  • A 16-year-old juvenile
  • Tavon Bush, age 30, of Springfield 
  • Kenneth Latino, age 24, of Springfield
  • Jonathan Castro, age 32, Springfield
  • David Seda, age 24, of Springfield
  • Dahaviam David, age 47, of Springfield
  • Jesus Vinas, age 45, of Easthampton
  • Dionicio Cruz, age 37, of Springfield
  • Ezequiel Almanzar, age 22, of Springfield
  • Tyler Laliberte, 21, of Chicopee
  • Jorge Torres, age 26, of Springfield

All were charged with helmet violations and public way violations and other charges.
